Why I’m supporting Fayose – Arise

A former member of the National Assembly, Senator Ayo Arise, has said his decision to support the candidature of Mr Ayo Fayose as the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for June 21 Governorship election was based on the wishes of the generality of the party faithful.
He noted that since it is the majority of the party members that want Fayose to lead the party to the June 21 Governorship election, he had no option but to line up behind the choice of the majority.

Speaking with newsmen at Oye Ekiti shortly after the electioneering campaign of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Oye Ekiti at the weekend, Arise said he had agreed to work for the success of Fayose in the governorship election after due consultation with the national leadership of the party.
Arise said he was impressed with the zeal for hard work and resilience of the party’s candidate, adding that the party’s  reconciliation committee led by him had recorded 80 percent success.

On the insistence of some of the aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants not to work with Fayose, Arise said the committee is not expecting 100 percent success at initial stage.

He said he had contested with Fayose and was convinced that he was stronger than him in the field and that immediately influenced his decision to conceded victory to him and congratulated him.
”During the time I was seeking a second term bid with Senator Olu Adetunmbi of the then ACN, immediately I noticed Olu was leading that very day I picked my phone, I called Olu and told him that l will not challenge him in court. If some of our politicians could embrace this idea of politics without bitterness the better, he said.
The former chairman Senate Committee on Privatization however assured that those who refused to reconcile themselves with the party’s choice would be disgraced on the election day.
Arise thanked the people of the state for their warm reception to the candidate.
