Why North Central must cooperate with FG – Wase

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Idris Wase has urged the people of the North Central region to cooperate with the government of day to ensure that the region gets its fair share of democracy dividends.

The deputy speaker, who lamented that the zone is far behind other geo-political regions in terms of infrastructure and political appointments, appealed to them to see the need to join hands and work with leaders to develop the region.

He said the above at the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central zonal executive committee in Abuja, noting that it was high time its leaders responded to the need of the region by working to bring about democracy dividends to the people.

“I said I have demanded for federal character for the past eight years. And I will not mince words, in terms of infrastructural needs, we are far behind.

“I am the deputy speaker for Nigeria but I have my own constituency, which is this particular zone. In terms of distribution of appointments, we are far behind. And the only way we can change the narrative is by coming together.

“We must come together as a family to ensure we carry ourselves along and pursue one common cause of a better zone and country.”

“We are not going to agitate, but to announce and ensure that we push for good representation. They say to whom much is given, much is expected. And that is why we have to work together, all the governors and lawmakers, to ensure we earn for ourselves what we deserve,” Wase said.

Though he said the region won’t agitate for appointments particularly since the constitution provides for equitable distribution of resources, but he said the region would appeal to the federal government to give the zone its due consideration in the allocation of projects and key appointments.

Wase promised to facilitate cordial working relationship between the lawmakers and the party as well as their constituents, and expressed confidence that the APC would continue to grow in the region and across the country.
