Why we endorsed Buhari – North west students

Ahead of Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections, students of tertiary institutions in the North West zone have expressed their support for President Muhammad Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.

The students under the aegis of Students Movement for the Actualisation of Buhari (SMAB), told journalists on Saturday in Kaduna after their North West solidarity rally that they are supporting Buhari because Nigeria has witnessed lots of progress in the last three and half years under the APC government.

According to the National President of SMAB 2019 Comrade Abdullahi Yinusa Sangei, the APC government under President Buhari has achieved so much in the area of security, education, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment, power generation among others.

“The struggle for the actualisation of Buhari 2019 is dedicated to the promotion of good governance, peace, and fight against thuggery,  cooperation and understanding. We, students of different institutions from across the country consolidate ourselves into active, progressive and integrated body to support the laudable achievements of President Muhammad Buhari and his team.

“Security plays vital role in human life, without peace you cannot do anything. Before Buhari became president, students cannot attend class in some institutions, if you go to class in the morning, you ate not assured of coming back safely. Boko Haram has been decimated, schools are back and people are returning home. Insecurity has been largely addressed. We know that there are pockets of insecurity in Zamfara but government is working hard to rectify it.

“President Buhari has performed well in the area of youth and women empowerment. Over 200, 000 youth are benefiting from the N-Power programme and youth are enjoying it. There is Trader Moni aimed at boosting traders capital to revive and expand their businesses.

“The APC government is serious about diversifying Nigerian economy from oil to agriculture. The Anchor Borrowers programme in rice production is a big success and this will be replicated in other crops to boost food production and export across the country.

“In the area of infrastructure, power generation and distribution is now over 5,000Mw, while work is advanced on Mambilla power plant that is expected to add 3,600Mw of electricity to the grid to boost small and medium scale industry. In the education sector, free education and school feeding has returned to bring our young children back to primary and junior secondary schools.

“In view of the above and more, we hereby declare our total support for the candidature of President Muhammadu Buhari and his team in the forthcoming general elections. I humbly urge all students across the country to continue to organise for peace and good governance and not agonise,” the president stated.
