Why we opposed removal of Oshiomole – Osun APC chair

The All Progressives Congress,  APC’s chairman in Osun State, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, has said allegations for the removal of the national Chairman of the party were selfish and baseless.

This, among other achievement of Oshiomole, he said, were the reason the chairmen of the party opposed his removal.

Speaking at the ‘News Point’ programme of NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Thursday evening, Famoodun said the resolve to save Oshiomole’s job was informed by past political experiences and the need to galvanise the party against major crisis.

According to him, failure of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to manage crisis of such has been the major reason why the opposition party could not unite.

He explained that the failure of Oshiomole to deliver Zamfara is not enough to warrant his removal considering his achievement in the past.

“We are all witness to what befell PDP. They have a retinue of chairmen. This one is not good, they remove. That one is not good, they remove him. They also changed senate president for about four or six times.

“Those of them that are instrument to it in PDP, some of them are with us. They warn us from time to time that there are ways to correct chairman rather than remove him and put another person that can eventually be worse.

“If you look at the reason for the agitation of Oshiomole’s removal, it is because some people believe that if another person is there, they will have their way.

Speaking on the performance of his party in the state, Famodun said the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola is consolidating achievement of the last administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, especially in the area of infrastructure.

He explained that certain policies of the new government were tailored towards addressing the immediate needs of the people in the state, without compromising physical development.

The Osun APC chairman however described the wave of defection that hit the party prior to 2018 gubernatorial election as a wrong political calculation.

Famodun cited the case of the former Secretary to the State Government,  Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, who contested the governorship seat alongside Oyetola on the platform of ADP, saying the move was efforts in futility.

“Somebody like the former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, who understands the tenets of progressives politics better than me,  having been a progressive all his life unfortunately made a decision that reduced him politically.”
