The Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi state chapter, Sunday, clarified that its move to rent a new office was not to fight the state government.
Members of the chapel had rented an office at Spera N’ Deo plaza on the Enugu- Abakaliki expressway after some of it members had issues with the state government. Since then, some persons assumed the office was to hound state government.
To put the issue to rest, the chairman of the chapel, Comrade Jacob Ogodo on Sunday explained that “the members rented the office to discharge their duties effectively and not to fight the state government as being speculated in many quarters.”
He maintained that journalists in Ebonyi had cordial relationship with the state government, which remains unbroken since the inception of the present administration in 2015.
Ogodo, while interacting with journalists in Abakaliki, noted that the chapel did not rent the office to fight Umahi’s administration as erroneously believed but to enable the members discharge their duties diligently.
He said, “Let me make it clear that we did not rent our office to fight the state government as people believe. All over the country, Correspondents Chapels have their offices outside Government House and it makes them to be alive to their duties and that is what we have done.”
“Our governor has done wonderfully well in developing our dear state and we will continue to partner his administration by reporting the policies and programmes of his administration effectively.
“Those saying that we rented office to fight the governor or his administration want to create enmity between the government and the chapel or blackmail the chapel before the state government. Such people should look elsewhere to sell their gossips.”
