The National Coordinator Media Monitors for Good Governance in Nigeria, Otumba Olusegun Monday Folorunso, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to remove the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina for allegedly committing many offences, including collecting double salary.
Folorunso, who is also the executive-secretary Media Monitors Ombudsman Initiative, in an exclusive interview with Blueprint, called on the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and the Chairman Governing Council of the institution, Dr. Mohammed Lawal Yahuza, to set up an independent panel to investigate the allegations leveled against Fashina by his group.
He said Fashina’s continued stay as VC of FUOYE is a dent on the image of the administration of President Buhari.
He said, “We will not allow Professor Fashina and his cohort to continue to rubbish the image of the Buhari administration which we fought to bring to power.”
He said the group has petitioned relevant anti-corruption agencies on the issue, calling on them to take action to stop the illegality.
“People complain about the misdemeanors of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina.
“They complained to us, we took it upon ourselves and we found out that the vice-chancellor is guilty of collecting double salary of not less than 12 months while he was on the employ of Ekiti State University and Federal University Oye-Ekiti, which is a criminal offence under Nigerian laws.
“It is in the light of this that we have written petitions to the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Code of Conduct Bureau, the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, Chief of Staff to the President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, South-west Caucus in the Senate and other stakeholders on why they should intervene. If they don’t intervene, the illegality being perpetrated by Prof Fashina will continue.”
