Why Yobe recorded violence-free election in 2019 – CSOs

Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in yobe state in collaboration with Media platform of the Voice and Accountability said the sensitization workshops carried out by the Partnership To Engage, Reform and Learn-Engage Citizens Pillar (PERL-ECP) was responsible for violence-free election in the state.

The leaders of the platforms stated this while speaking on the outcome of the 2019 general elections and the successes recorded on Thursday.

Yusuf Isa, the Chairman of Media platform, said: “PERL-ECP had given us several trainings on how to sensitize the citizens not to engage in political thugs and we tried our best through town hall meetings, rallies, enlightenment campaigns, pamphlets among others”.

“At both the elections, no single person was injured or killed in Yobe and we believe it was the courtesy of the training we received”, he said.

The leader of the CSO in the state, Hauwa Bah Abubakar, told Blueprint that their members and other Community Based Organiations (CBOs) went to all nooks and crannies of the state by creating awareness for credible elections and sensitized the electorates on how to vote.

While responding, the PERL, Yobe state partnership facilitator, Musa Waziri, said they were able to facilitate discussions across the political parties for non-violence election.

“We also had engagements with women groups, people with disabilities, youth associations, traditional rulers among others, infact it was a complete cluster for service delivery, so what we did was to advocate for peace and we have seen the result.” he said.
