Widow’s family seeks justice over her ‘murder’

The family of late Mrs Ngozi Peter, a widow, has cried out for justice for their daughter, over her alleged murder by one Friday Chukwu, an indigene of Azuitumo, Oshiegbe in Ezza North LGA of Ebonyi state, over her refusing to have sexual intercourse with him.
Blueprint gathered that Chuwku’s sexual advances towards the deceased started shortly after the death of the her husband, five years ago, however, the victim continued to rebuff his advances until the fateful morning when she was reportedly trailed to her farm and allegedly killed by the.
According to a member of the community, who did not want his name in print, Mr Chukwu reportedly confessed to his brother-inlaw after committing the crime claiming that he didn’t know what he was doing at the time.
He said youths and other members of teh community had swung into action after the discovery of the woman’s lifeless body in her farm and eventually arrested the suspect who was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
Confirming the incident, the deceased’s brother-in-law, Mr Uchenna Anochie, said the situation was disheartening as the widow had been struggling to cope with challenges of life.
Anochie, who said it was heartless of Mr Chukwu to have gruesomely killed her in such a manner, called on public-spirited organisations as well as Federation International Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the Legal Aid Counsel of Nigeria, Ebonyi state, respectively to help so that justice would be done in the matter.
Efforts to reach the Police spokesperson proved abortive as at the time of going to press, however, a police source confirmed the incident and said investigation was ongoing.
