The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has described the style employed by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state in inviting people from across party and regional divides to commission his development projects as distinguishing and a pan-Nigerian in orientation.
The youth organisation said the governor’s style of leadership has made him a symbol of national unity and cohesion.
President of NYCN made this known in Abuja, Wednesday, while interacting with journalists after its stakeholders’ meeting in line with their mandate of identifying and partnering with distinguished Nigerians, especially those who have shown commitment to national development, unity and cohesion as well as youth friendly policies.
Part of the statement reads: “Governor Wike has demonstrated that he is a symbol of national unity as he has continued to be sportsmanly in his interactions with Nigerians across political divides. The invitation of the presidential candidates of Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi and that of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to visit and commission projects in the state shows that the governor has no time for bitterness in his political career.”
On the award given by President Buhari to Governor Wike, the group noted that it is well deserved and equally a reflection of not just his personality but his style of leadership, which is goal-oriented and people-driven.
“Nobody in the history of Nigeria is more deserving of the award for infrastructural development that was awarded to His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike. A visit to Port Harcourt will convince even a blind man that Wike is development conscious. He has eased the problem of traffic in Rivers with his strategic flyover projects and numerous access roads across the states. Indeed, a visionary leader like Wike deserves to rule the country and replicate the River’s blueprint nationally”, the statement said.
Continuing, NYCN said: “There is no governor in Nigeria that is running the kind of all inclusive government that his Excellency is running. His projects are scattered throughout the state regardless of whether he was voted in a particular area or not.”
