Wike inaugurates committee on NICT, Uromi

The federal government has inaugurated a six-man committee to oversee the take-off of the newly established, National Institute of Construction Technology, Uromi, in Edo state.

Inaugurating the committee in Abuja, the supervising Minister for Education, Barrister Nyeso Wike, reminded the members that the establishment of the institution is a central component of the transformation agenda of the present administration.
According to him, “Education and human capital development, education is key to our national development. Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) represents a major area of focus of this strategic plan that is aimed at addressing the challenges of skill development, job creation and the eradication of poverty in Nigeria’’.

The minister further urged public spirited and well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies in Edo state in particular and the country in general to continue to contribute their quota towards the development of the unique institute.
Some of the terms of reference of the committee include: ensuring the smooth take off of the institute through setting in motion the process of appointing a rector and other principal officers in line with the laid down procedure, rule and regulation, through consultation with NBTE and director, tertiary educations.

The steering committee is also expected to determine in consultation with NBTE, the minimum materials obtain approval for ND civil engineering technology, ND building technology and surveying and work towards the preparation of academic and physical development master plan for the institution.
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Alhaji Masa’udu Kazaure, is the chairman of the committee.
