Will Benue youth join the Iorsamber revolution?

A young senatorial candidate in Benue state, Comrade Martin Iorsamber, is calling for regime change in the state following the continuous recycling of failed politicians.

This is the first time a young man from a humble background will come up in the state to challenge the money bag politicians on a decision they have made. The former governor of the state and senate committee chairman on power, Senator Gabriel Suswam, is bent on returning to the senate which is against the zoning arrangement of the zone.

This is even in the face of his poor performance if he was to be placed side by side with his predesessor, Senator Barnabas Gemade, who represented the zone from 2011 to 2015 and 2015 to 2019. This development has influenced other political parties to also cede their tickets to Suswam’s kinsmen against the zoning arrangement. However, Comrade Martin Iorsamber who is from the Kwande axis is insisting that such development will bring unhealthy relationship among the people of the zone.

Iorsamber’s five-point agenda titled, Consensus For Progress”, is challenging the distortion of zoning on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), with the campaign slogan, “God Is Involved”.

The youngest senatorial candidate in the state has said apart from the issue of “Not Too Young To Rule” the Benue North East Senatorial seat should go to the people of Kwande who have never produced a senator for the zone since the fourth republic began in 1999.

The top contenders in the race with Comrade Iosamber are former Governor Gabriel Suswam of PDP, former two-term House of Representatives member, Hon. Emmanuel Udende of APC, and Labour Party candidate, Dr. Torngee Malu. All the other aspirants joined the race against the zoning formula of the zone.

It is only Comrade Iorsamber that is favoured by zoning. Going by the Tiv way of political power sharing, the Senate seat of the Benue North East senatorial district also known as Zone A is for Kwande, but some politicians have manipulated it against Kwande, a development that prompted Comrade Iorsamber to launch a third force under SDP to challenge the misdeed.

The young activist who is undergoing a doctorate degree in environmental management is a fellow of several professional bodies and a consultant on human capital development and entrepreneurship management. He is also the convener of Movement for Advancement and Peaceful Nigeria.

Unlike other political revolutions that are always instigated by external forces, the Consensus For Progress seems to have no sponsors, a development some observers believe will make the movement dead on arrival since there are no funders bankrolling it which will not be the case.

As the youngest senatorial candidate in the state, many observers are keen to see what the youths will do for him. Others are also watching to see if the people of Kwande will abandon their own in order to support an outsider against the zoning arrangement to the disadvantage of Kwande. They are waiting to see whether the youths will join this revolution the young man has initiated. Only time shall tell.
