With 79.3%, INEC declares Buni winner of Yobe guber poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Yobe
state, Mai Mala Buni, has been declared winner of the gubernatorial
election held on Saturday.

Declaring the result on Sunday, the state Returning Officer Professor
Abubukar Musa Gundiri of Federal University Wukari, Taraba state, said
the election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.

According to him, Buni scored 444,013 votes representing 79.3 per cent of the total votes cast, after winning in all the seventeen local governments while his opponent in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Umar Iliya Damagum scored 95,703 votes which represents 17.1 per cent of the total vote cast.

The remaining 3.6 per cent was garnered by other political parties.

According to the returning officer, there were a total of 563,431
accredited votes, 546,391 valid votes while the rejected votes stood
at 14,101.
