Woman, 29, ‘steals’ 3-year-old neighbour’s daughter in Anambra

Anambra State Police command, Monday, announced arrest of 29-year-old woman, Miss Chinwendu Umegbaka, for allegedly stealing her neighbour’s three-year-old daughter with an intention to sale her.

Umegbaka, who hails from Isinkwo, Abaomege in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, reportedly committed the act at Nwawulu street, Okpoko, Onitsha.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect at first, denied having knowledge of the child whereabouts but later confessed to the crime following a further interrogation.

“The Anambra State Command Operatives on 2/7/2022 at 4:30pm arrested one Miss Chinwendu Umegbaka, 29years, native Isinkwo Abaomege in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State on alleged case of Child stealing at Nwawulu street, Okpoko, Onitsha.

“Preliminary information reveals that the suspect is a neighbor to the parent of the child. Chinwendu when arrested initially denied to know the way about of the 3year old girl. Further interrogation by the police made her to confess, stealing the child with the intention of selling her.

“Meanwhile, the child has been recovered and handed over to the parent. Further development shall be communicated as investigation is ongoing,” he noted.
