Woman, 40, arrested for baby trafficking in Kano

The Kano state hisbah board Monday said it has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Salomi Jerome and her husband, Igina Salomi for allegedly trafficking a new born baby from Delta State to Kano.

The Commander General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Harun Muhammad Sani Ibn-Sina confirmed the incident to newsmen.

Ibn-Sina said the suspects were arrested by hisbah officials attached to motor parks who suspected some foul plays with Salome who claimed to have given birth to the baby whom was later found dead.

According to him, “On the 15th May, 2021, our men attached to the motor park nabbed a woman, Salomi Jerome, 40-year-old, carrying a new born baby boy. She was accompanied by a man, Igina Salomi, 50-year-old, she claimed was her husband but that we found out to be untrue. She also pretended to be breastfeeding the baby to receive the public that the baby is her baby.

“Investigation revealed that the baby was not her baby. The baby was bought from a nurse working with a hospital in Asaba, Delta State.

“Further investigation also revealed that the baby was not well and even later confirmed dead.

“We further discovered that the alleged husband contributed N150,000 while she contributed N350,000 as they raised N900,000 to buy the baby.

“We have handed over the matter to the police for further investigation into the matter,” Ibn-Sina stated.

The Hisbah Commander General, however, urged the general public to report any suspected character or suspicious movement to relevant authorities while reiterating the agency’s commitment in eradicating all forms of vices in the society.
