Woman bleeds to death after forceful removal of baby by attendant

A middle aged woman simply identified as Mrs Nkechi was sent to her early grave when she was forced to put to birth by husband in Ebonyi state.

Nkechi was said to have given birth to two children through caesarian section in her previous pregnancies however, this time around locked inside the room by her husband Mr Samuel Chidi a law graduate  with a traditional birth attendant who forcefully drag the baby out of her.

Though the baby survived, the mother bled to death.

The incident which occurred during the weekend took place at Chinedu Ogah Avenue in Abakiliki, Ebonyi state capital.

Narrating the story to Blueprint, a Nurse who lives in the same compound with the family said: “I went out with my aunty on coming back I was called, immediately I rushed to their apartment with my aunty thinking that Nkechi just gave birth.

“On getting their I saw Ogoo their house help carrying a new born baby already dressed, I saw Nkechi at the bull of  blood on the ground with her jugular vein straight, her husband was by the side while the so called Traditional Birth Attendant TBA was at her back with clothes stained in blood.

“I went down asked Ogo if the baby’s cord has been tired,the so call TBA said yes, I now asked of the placenta I was told it was safe so immediately I bent down to check her, I found out that her body was cold, I check for the pulse I couldn’t get it , I touched her neck  it was cold and I then raised alarm.

“The next thing the neighbours gathered, the whole of the third floor nobody heard a sound that showed that the woman was in labour.

“After that we now decided to take her to the mortuary and as we carried her blood was still gushing out from her body, all that I did to see if I could restored her back to life proved abortive.

Meanwhile the husband has been arrested and detained by the police at the Kpirikpiri division.

But when contacted, the state Police Public Relations officer DSP Loveth Odah said that police has not been briefed.
