Woman docked for ‘stealing’ Pastor’s phone in Edo

The police in Edo state has arraigned one Blessing Chuks, 27,  before an Ogbeson Chief  Magistrates’ Court  for allegedly stealing a pastor Itel W5504 Phone valued at N58,000.

The defendant who was charged for stealing, however pleaded not guilty, adding that she picked the phone on the floor.
Police Prosecutor, Insp. Charity Asemota told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb 15, at 2nd Obareware street, Off Upper Mission Road, Benin City.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant  stole the phone belonging to Rev. Josey Ibash.

Asemota said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 390(9)  of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. 11, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo.
Chief Magistrate,  Prince Mutairu Oare however granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.


According to the Magistrate  “the surety must be responsible.”
