Woman who absconded with daughters over circumcision declared missing in Lagos

A woman identified as Mrs. Oyeronke Adams who disappeared with her three daughters for refusing the eldest one, Miss Mariam Adams, to be circumcised in accordance to family traditions has been declared missing by the Dada Bakare and Alarape Aligbangba families of Ajah in Eti-Osa local government area of Lagos state.
Mrs Oyeronke was said to have vehemently opposed the decision to force her daughter into an early marriage in 2018 as well as her circumcision as part of the preparation for the marriage.

The decision, according to the family youth leader, Arinola Adams, was a requirement by both family oracles based on a land agreement.
According to Arinola, “Madam Oyeronke Adams deceived him to take Mariam Adams to travel out of the country for shopping in preparation for her marriage and circumcision when she left Nigeria sometime in 2018 with her and her other children and she has not been back to Nigeria since then.

“Now, it is mandatory for Madam Oyeronke Adams to bring our daughter – Mariam Adams to Nigeria to go through purification exercise as it is part of our family tradition, custom and believes that every first female child born from this family home and away must take part in this purification exercise at the ancestral shrine and prepared them for marriage.

“Likewise it is also important that Madam Oyeronke Adams’ other daughters (Sameerah Adams and Delisha Adams) should be part taker in this purification exercise scheduled for Friday to Sunday October 18 to 20, 2020.
“We are also pleading with other families that their daughters are within Nigeria or outside Nigeria that have been avoiding bringing their daughters home for purification exercise to come forward to go through this important family purification exercise to avert the calamities in the community.

“Anyone with information about her whereabouts should please contact  08023850123.”
