Women engineers task girl-child on career

Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (PWEN), Kano state branch, has commenced a sensitisation campaign on the need for girl-child to study engineering.

The chairperson of the association, Dr Zainab Yunusa stated this   while briefing newsmen on the act of the association in Kano Thursday. 

She said the mission of the association was to encourage female students in secondary schools to take up science courses with a view to study engineering in the university.

He said the association had organised a career guidance talk and Public lecture for 120 female students selected from 20 secondary schools within Kano metropolis.

“Gone are the days when engineering is left for the masculine or men. So engineering is not for men only, hence our decision to organise the career guidance talk with a view to encourage girls to study engineering.

“The event is also aimed at changing the impression people have about engineering as women can also study it and become engineers, “she said.

Zainab, who is also a lecturer with the Department of Engineering, Bayero University, Kano, said during the career guidance talk, a lecture would be presented on the ills of drug abuse among the youth.
