Women lobby group condemns attacks on South-east

South-east zone of the 100 Women Lobby group has condemned the spate of attacks and killings in the south-east states.

Its Zonal coordinator Mrs. Irene Ugbah, in a statement made available to Journalists Thursday in Abuja, said that the destruction of lives and properties especially in the current harsh economy does not portend well for Ndi Igbo and Nigeria at large.

Ugba, in the statement explained that the 100 women Lobby Group is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) that advocates for increase in women’s participation in politics and governance, lamenting that the current security challenges will stall the progress they have recorded so far.

“How can we advocate for women’s political participation when there is no peace in the land bearing in mind that during period of unrest and chaos women and children suffer most,” she decried.

The statement charged concerned governors and other relevant stakeholders on peace, saying that people now live in fear and businesses which is the mainstay of the eastern region economy are collapsing.

“We urge governors and all stakeholders to bring back the peace ndi Igbo have been known for, so that people can live without fear and businesses which is our area of strength can thrive,” she stressed.
