Association of Lady Pharmacists has sought collaboration with the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) on the fight against drug abuse in the country saying there was an increase in child drug users.
Its President, Zainab Sharrif, stated this in Abuja when she led a delegation of its members to the National President, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Mrs. Nkechi Okemini Mba, on a courtesy visit.
“Children today take overdose of benilin syrup and other drugs capable of intoxicating them and this is harmful to their health. We will soon convene a programme we title ‘catch them young’ where we will bring both youths and mothers to talk to them on the dangers of drug intake.”
Responding, the NCWS president urged the group to pay the First Lady a courtesy call as she ensured women projects adoption, saying that she would assist in forwarding the proposal to the president “who believes in women.”
Similarly, the Executive Director of the Unity In Diversity Initiative (UIDI), Dr. Chinyere Osuchukwu, led a delegation of its leadership to a courtesy visit on the NCWS, seeking collaboration with the council in curbing restiveness in the country.
Osuchukwu said the UIDI was poised to advance the fight against violence, maintaining that if there must be sustainable peace, women issues must be on the front burner.
He said: “We believe that if we must end this conflict legacy that has battered our image as a nation, mothers need to encourage more cross boarder relationships and mixed marriages among our youths. This is because citizens from such relationships and marriages will work dispassionately to improve ties between our various peoples.”
