The program director and convener Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) Miss. Ifeoma Onyebuchi has called for more women to participate in public procurement in order to break the cultural barriers disengaging women in economic development of the country.
She stated this at a one day workshop on women participation in public procurement recently in Abuja.
“Women aren’t disadvantaged but limited, therefore compulsory laws should be made for women to participate on such platforms,” she said.
Also speaking, the representative of FCT Education Resource Centre, Mrs. Charity Ego Madubuko, said public procurement is one of the ways used to empowering women financially.
“Achieving this goal depends on closing the gap in the procurement sector experienced by Nigerian women. It also depends on opportunities given to women and girls in our societies and economies.
“For any country to achieve sustainable development goal in order to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for everyone, women must and should be allowed to participate and ensure accountability and transparency in open government contract,” she said.
