Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and his deputy, Hon. Idris Wase, have congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of this year’s International Workers’ Day, urging them on more productivity.
Gbajabiamila in his message through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Lanre Lasisi, said although the day is being marked quietly across the globe as a result of the lockdown necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, there is much to remember about the sacrifices made by Nigerian workers.
“I want to salute the courage of Nigerian workers, who have over the years given their best to their work. Indeed Nigeria and Nigerians are proud of you.
“I urge the Nigerian workers to redouble their efforts at this time of our national development. They must continue to put in their best in the work that they do for the betterment of the country,” Gbajabiamila said.
Also in his message through a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Umar Puma, Wase who commended Nigerian workers said even though the celebration comes at a time the world is combating the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Nigerian workers deserved commendations for their courage and resilience.
“I congratulate all Nigerian workers on this day. I salute your courage and resilience going through one of the most trying times of COVID÷19 global pandemic”.
The deputy speaker also acknowledged the incredible work being done by the healthcare workers, security personnel and volunteers especially those in the frontline of the fight against the pandemic saying history will be kind to them for their sacrifices, adding that “these challenges have clearly shown how resilient and hardworking Nigerians workers are, and I urged them not to relent but to remain committed and resourceful as usual.”
