World Food Day: FCT ARDS wants farmers sensitised against climate change effect

The Federal Capital Territory Administration Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS) has stressed the need to sensitize farmers on how to mitigate the effects of climate change during the farming season.

The Director, Planning Research and Statistics,FCT, ARDS, Mr Adeyemo Tayo in an interview with journalists at the 1-day state level interactive forum and commemoration of 2022, World Food Day organized by Smallscale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria’s (SWOFON), FCT observed that a lot of people are not aware of the effect of climate change .

He said that farmers need to know more about the real causes of climate change and how to manage it during the farming season .

He said the Secretariat is responsible in ensuring that more women farmers in the FCT are supported by way of subsidizing farming inputs and to make sure that these inputs are available at the right time.

He assured that the Federal Government is doing a lot to ensure production of massive staple foods depending on the geographical location across the FCT.

Also, the Assistant Secretary of Small scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria’s (SWOFON),FCT, Chijioke Ihouma Peace expressed concern on the effect of flood in some parts of the area councils and urged the Federal Government to assist them adding that some crops are getting spoilt in the farms due to the constant rain.

She also called on federal government to assist them due to the hike of fuel adding that they need fuel to farm their products during the dry season farming.
