World Teachers’ Day: NUT makes donation to children in Ekiti

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ekiti state chapter Thursday donated books, diapers, snacks and other materials worth thousands of naira to children of Erelu Angela Adebayo Children’s Home at Iyin Ekiti.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the donation is part of activities lined up to celebrate this year’s World Teachers’ Day in the state.

Handing over the items to the staff of the children home, the state NUT chairman, Mr Samuel Olugbesan, said that the gesture was to associate with the children, and assured them of a better future.

Olugbesan said the union would make it part of its obligations to contribute to the welfare of the less privileged in the society in its subsequent programmes.

The NUT chairman appealed to well-meaning Nigerians in the society to use their wealth to better the lots of others, especially the less privileged.

He also appealed to parents to take good care of their children for them to be relevant in future, urging those in the habit of dumping babies to desist from such despicable act.

Mrs Ajayi Adebayo, who received the gift on behalf of the children, thanked the leadership of NUT in the state for the kind gesture.

The children of the Erelu Angela Adebayo home also appreciated the teachers for remembering them.

NAN reports that the Teachers’ Day activities in Ekiti continue on Friday with a public lecture, scheduled to hold at the NUT office along Old Iyin road, while the grand finale of the programme will take place Saturday at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium by 10am.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5 and aims to focus on “appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world” and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching-learning experience.
