Writing sex, sexuality and morality – Toni Kan in conversation with Lola Shoneyin in Lagos

ShoneyinOn Saturday, 15th February, two of Nigeria’s leading writers, Lola Shoneyin and Toni Kan will meet to discuss matters of the bedroom. Kan – author of the bawdy collection Nights of the Creaking Bed – and Shoneyin – author of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, a contemporary morality tale of lust, longing, polygamy (and paternity) – will open the door on the secret world of desire, Naija style.

The evening after Vals night, what better way to celebrate with the love of your life (or the conquest of the night before)? If you come alone, who knows what you might discover?

At a time when the state has decided to legislate on what takes place between consenting adults, Shoneyin and Kan will discuss everyday realities in Nigeria. Is Nigeria stuck in a time where appearances matter most of all, or is there a new notion of morality emerging in modern day Africa? What do writers make of this intrusion of private desire? This is an opportunity to meet these wonderful writers in the flesh, buy their books and have them signed.

Venue: Terra Kulture, Plot 1376, Tiamiyu Savage, off Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos
