Xenophobia: Rep task colleagues to donate to airline staff, returnees

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ajibola Muraina, has asked his colleagues to take step further by donating a token of their salaries to cabin crew of Air Peace that worked to evacuate stranded Nigerians, and welfare of the returnees.

The House of Representatives had on Wednesday, hosted chairman of the airline, Mr Allen Onyema, during its plenary, where encomiums poured over his gesture of freely evacuating Nigerians during following the renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Speaking with journalists on the gesture, Muraina said, “since the National Assembly has given the lead in appreciating the return of the spirit of selflessness, being our brothers keeper and exhibiting milk of kindness, I humbly suggest that the National Assembly should demonstrate a further lead by example.

“I suggest most humbly that my noble colleagues from the National Assembly should consider making a token donations from their salaries for the cabin crew of Air Peace that worked and continue to work without taking any allowance, the Nigerians that have been evacuated back to Nigeria, and those that may still be evacuated”.

According to the lawmaker who said the token may be useful for the evacuated Nigerians in whatever form and the cabin crew, “this may signpost a new beginning of Nigerians demonstrating milk of kindness towards each other”.

He said if his call was heeded, most other Nigerians all over the world would join the trail.
