Xenophobia: Reps move to make Air Peace NASS’ official airline

The House  of Representatives has commenced move towards making Air Peace the official airline of the National Assembly.

This was in recognition of efforts of the company’s chairman, Mr. Aliens Onyema, in the evacuation of stranded Nigerians in South Africa, following the renewed xenophobic attacks. The House had earlier on Tuesday urged the federal government to confer a national honour on Onyeama, for conveying willing Nigerians free of charge from South Africa.

This was sequel to members’ unanimous adoption of a motion on Wednesday, by former spokesman of the House, and chairman of the Committee on Army, Hon. Adulrazak Namdas, who urged the need for the federal government to give an award to Onyeama.

The Air Peace boss was at the House plenary on a special invitation of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, during which he was roundly appreciated by members for the kind gesture, including such in the past.

Namdas in his motion recalled how released his aircrafts to convey Nigerians during the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, adding that in doing so, the airline did not collect any money, even when none of his family members were among the stranded Nigerians in South Africa.

Gbajabiamila, in his ruling remarks, said his office will immediately write a letter of commendation to Air Peace Airline, and transit the resolutions of the House to President Muhammadu Buhari for necessary action to be taken.
