YABATECH gets new non-teaching staff union

The  non academic staff of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has registered a new union named, Non-Teaching Staff Union of Polytechnics (NOTSUP).

A statement signed by the general secretary of the Yabatech chapter of NOTSUP, Comrade Mathew Ekong, and made available to Blueprint, Thursday, described the new union as an institution-based trade union which champions the course of non teaching staff of polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of technology in Nigeria.

“The new union came into existence in order to adequately represent the interest of non-teaching staff in the polytechnic sector.

“NOTSUP didn’t split out from any Union. NOTSUP is not formed by the Federal Government or politicians. NOTSUP is not a tool of divide and rule and it is not bent on destabilizinng any Union,” Ekong said.

He said NOTSUP is meant to bargain and negotiate for the labour rights and welfare of non-teaching staff, and development of polytechnic institutions.

The emergence of NOTSUP brought to four the number of staff unions in the college.

In the leadership hierarchy, Sanusi Adebayo is chairman, Akinyemi Bayo will serve as vice chairman and Mathew Ekong is general secretary of the new union.
