Yabatech trains lecturers on open distance learning

The Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has organised open distance and flexible learning (ODFL) training for lecturers of the institution with a view to enhancing maximum learning for all stakeholders.
A press statement made available to Blueprint said the train-the-trainer workshop, organised in collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) yesterday drew lecturers from 12 departments of the institution to fast track the smooth take off of the programme of the college. Speaking at the workshop, Director of Flexible Skill Development, Dr. I.A. Abdul, said the vision was to enable polytechnics in Nigeria adopt distance learning as model for spreading quality education to the nooks and crannies of the society.
He said NBTE had trained lecturers from various polytechnics and had mandated them to go into their respective schools to train others, in order to spread the knowledge of distance learning in all departments. Earlier in his speech, Rector of the polytechnic, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe, explained that, “for over 70 years our education system had relied on faceto-face method of classroom teaching. However, to be able to maintain our leading position in the future, Yabatech must develop and perfect her ODFL system to meet the demand of time. “ODFL is one of the most rapidly growing fi elds of education and it will be an important element of future education and training systems.”
He said, in May 24, 2017, the NBTE approved the implementation of ODFL in 12 programmes for Yabatech and 29 for other polytechnics, explaining that prior to the approval, the college established the FSD centre in April 2016 with 3 departments, one of which is ODFL department
