Yari carpets Jonathan over insecurity

Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari of Zamfara state has condemned the federal government over the insecurity situation in the country, saying that “only state police can bring lasting solution to the problem.”

Reacting to his critics who blamed him for the security problems in his state, the governor stressed that the federal government should rather be blamed” because it controls the security operatives in the country.”

“We don’t have our own police or soldiers; we have no power over them.
So how can anybody blame any governor over insecurity?”

He maintained that if the governors were allowed to recruit their own police, the problem of insecurity would have since been over.
“If we are allowed to recruit our police, I am assuring you that it would not take me and other Governors longer time to address insecurity problems bedeviling our states.”

He, therefore, advised the federal government that if it could no longer guarantee security in the country, it should, as a matter of urgency, allow governors to recruit their own police in order to end the rampant killings of innocent people.
He expressed total disgust over the persistent attacks and killings of herdsmen in Zamfara state, calling on the people of the state to embark on prayers.

It would be recalled that the governor made similar appeal sometime, last year, when he visited Kizara village where over 50 people were massacred by unknown persons.
