Former governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, has declared that the incumbent governor of the state, Bello Matawalle, can not stop the state’s pension policy which confers him the right to benefit.
Zamfara state governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, had accused his predecessor, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, of paying himself N360 million from the state pension funds shortly before he left office.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Friday when he visited the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor, who was reluctant to speak on the issue briefly said his successor can not stop the policy.
When asked to react to the controversial pension policy which has been reportedly reppeled, Yari said: “About the pension policy, government can not change this policy for now but I promised I won’t say anything for now.
“As I said I don’t want comment on the happening in Zamfara state but time will come when everything will be put on the table, for now we will allow him (the governor) so that he will not say we distracted him from governance, from doing the right thing, but time will come when we will look at the measures then we will start talking,” the former governor said.
Commenting on the insecurity the country is going through, Yari believe that many hands have to come on desk from both the legislature and Executive and other meaningful Nigerians that are mean well to address the issue.
“As one time Chief Security Officer of the state, I know the issue of security and one of the major frontline state when it comes to the issue of insecurity. If it is not Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, Zamfara may be second.
“I know the predicament of the security and that of state when it comes to the issue of security.
“So, therefore I don’t know whether continuing changing of security chiefs will be the solution or getting the right equipment for them or facilities to deal with situation or having the minds to clear what we have on ground is the issue, ” he said.
The former governor said he was at the party’s national Secretariat to felicitates with Oshiomhole on the Supreme Court judgment vindicating the election of APC’s governorship candidate, Mr Hope Uzodinma.
“We just come to visit the party’s National Chairman on the issue of Supreme Court after the judgment and also intimidation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but making noise about the issue of.
“If the PDP makes noise on issue of Imo what about Zamfara, what are we going to say, did we make any protest, we did not come out to the streets and protest after the entire noise of Nigerians says the judgment of Zamfara is a miscarriage of justice.
“This is because it has never happened in the history of judiciary and the laws are very clear of what they are supposed to do but they did it otherwise.
“So, we kept mute because we are the ruling party. So, we came to discuss with the chairman definitely that one or two must be done to put the issue of Imo judgment to rest.”
