YIAGA Africa deploys 682 observers to monitor polls

Ahead of the governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls, YIAGA Africa, a non-governmental Organisations said it has deployed over 682 observers to monitor and provide accurate information at the polling unit and collation centres.

Chairman Watching The Vote Working Group Dr Hussaini Abdu told newsmen on Friday in Abuja that a total of 682 observers were deployed to observe the elections in 29 states.

According to him, those deployed are 642 stationary observers and 48 roving observers.

He called on all electoral umpires to comply with the Electoral guidelines by posting Forms EC.60E series at collation centres.

Abdu said they should encourage their supporters to exercise their franchise.

He said it would not be deploying the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) methodology to verify the authenticity of the results, rather it would assess the election process directly at the polling unit and collation centres.

The Chairman said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should ensure deployment of sufficient security personnel to protect election materials.
