Yieldwise project a success – Director

Director, Yieldwise Programme, Rockefeller Foundation, Africa Region, Mr. Rafael Flor, has described Yieldwise Project mission in Nigeria as “a great success,” promising to sustain the tempo in countries where the agricultural sector was accorded top priority.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday shortly after a stakeholders’ meeting with notable development partners in Kano, Flor said the Rockefeller Foundation was inspired by the priority attention accorded to agriculture by successive administrations under the present democratic dispensation to support tomato farmers.
He said it had been the main concern of the Yieldwise Project to ensure that the disturbing trend of post- harvest losses was adequately tackled in addition to entrenching an effective commodity value-chain in countries Yieldwise Project was being executed, stressing that utilising human resources for greater result was an important area of Yieldwise mission.
He said creating synergy with notable development partners like Pyxera Global and Techno Serve had become imperative considering the pressing need for an acceptable and formidable system that would ensure that local tomato farmers were given the leverage to move forward and make an appreciable in tomato production.
On his part, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, expressed the determination of the state government in paying good attention to farmers who had expressed their readiness to embrace the business of farming with vigour, adding that agriculture “is one of the major cardinal thrusts of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration.”
Gawuna, who was represented by the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Agric. Mechanisation, Alhaji Hamisu Sulieman Danguguwa, called on the Rockefeller Foundation and other notable development partners to sustain the tempo on concentrating in countries where the agricultural sector was accorded top priority, stressing that farming was the best way to ensure food security in any country.
