Anambra community without water cries to state, FG

By Okey Chris Awka People of Isiagu Ancient Kingdom in Awka South council of Anambra state have cried out to the federal and state governments for the provision of portable source of water and access roads.

Traditional ruler of the community, HRH Igwe Augustine Nwankwo, who made the appeal at a press conference ahead of the 2017 New Yam festival scheduled for Friday, lamented that lack of motorable road was disconnecting them from neighbouring communities.

He listed the most strategic amongst such roads begging for urgent attention to include Isiagu-Ezinator ring road and the Isiagu-Amansea-Orumba roads.

Th e monarch said that more industries have indicated interest on their various raw materials, but lack of accessible roads made it impossible for them to tap into it and in the process contribute to the state internally generated revenue.

“We need portable clean water for drinking and other domestic and industrial needs.

Sinking of borehole here is too deep and tasking.

It’s only in my palace that there is a borehole in the whole community and everyone fetches from it.

It’s very expensive to do.

We need more boreholes in strategic parts of the community for the benefi t of all.

“We, therefore, appeal to the States and National Assemblies, Anambra state and federal governments to assist us.

We have the Obizi stream as well as the Ezu River, where water could be taken, purifi ed and reticulated within the community.

” On the 2017 New Yam festival, Igwe Nwankwo said bigger prizes have been lined up for the top three farmers with the biggest size of yam, which usually served as morale booster for others to strive to win in subsequent year.

Blueprint reports that tourists, monarchs and business allies from across the globe were being expected at this year’s show which has progressively become a big international event for the state and visitors because of the cultural show.
