‘Yobe cargo airport to be completed by May 2019’

 

The Yobe state government has assured that all the ongoing capital projects in the state will be completed before the expiration of the Ibrahim Gaidam tenure on May 29, 2019.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy, Lawan Ali Shettima, when he paid an unscheduled visit to the ongoing International Cargo Airport located at Kallalawa community, a distance of 22 kilometers from the state capital, yesterday.
Blueprint recalled that the Yobe state Executive Council meeting of Wednesday 13th September, 2017 presided over by the executive governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, approved the sum of N11, 327,120,487.24 for the construction of an International Cargo Airport to be completed within 16 months.
When governor Gaidam paid visit in January 2018, the commissioner had said, the contractor had achieved 20 per cent in the construction of the access road, 50 per cent for run way, 16 [per cent for patrol road. Others were 88 per cent for cleared graded area and 6 per cent for geographical investigations making a grand total of percentage of work at 18.3 per cent as at January this year.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of work assuring the public that the project would be completed based on the contractual agreement and standard.
The legacy project had suffered many criticisms in the past by Yobe citizens that the project is not a priority of the state and cannot be completed before May, 2019.
