Yobe flags-off distribution of support package to 8,960

Yobe state government has restated its willingness to partner with North-east Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) and other donor agencies to provide interventions to vulnerable communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Governor Mai Mala Buni represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana stated this Thursday at the flagging-off transitional support materials to 8,960 beneficiaries, mostly women at Damaturu, the state capital.

“We want to assure you that our administration will continue to support the MCRP for the successful implementation of its project in the state.

“I wish to state here that with the restoration of peace in the state, greater percentages of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have returned to their communities,” he said.

Buni, solicited for more interventions, especially in terms of building materials to assist the returnees.

Earlier in his address, the Yobe state coordinator of the MCRP, Musa Idi Jidawa said, “MCRP which is a World Bank programme was aimed at improving livelihood of affected communities by facilitating recovery from the negative effects of Boko Haram conflict, strengthen social cohesion, and rehabilitate infrastructure.

“Under this transitional support, we are reaching out to 8,960 beneficiaries in the eight local government areas of Gujba,

Gulani, Fika, Potiskum, Damaturu, Tarmuwa, Geidam and Yunusari apart from 78 communities selected to form peace groups,” he said.

The beneficiaries were targeted through vulnerability criteria application that is socially inclusive, pro-poor and transparent, with local community participation in beneficiaries’ selection and third party validation.

There were goodwill messages from the national coordinator represented by Ubon Udoh and representative of World Food Programme in Yobe.

The rudiments distributed comprises of mattresses, cooking wares, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, fertilizer and non-motorised machines to re-start quick to market trading among others.
