Yobe flags-off free distribution of 2.3m treated Mosquito nets

Yobe state government in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health, Malaria Consortium and other development partners has flagged-off the distribution of 2.3million free Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) as a preventive measure for malaria disease.

Flagging-off the programme Monday at Emir of Damaturu’s palace, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, said, the efforts was to free the citizens from mosquito bites and safeguard the entire populace from malaria diseases.

He said, “This is to accelerate drive in conjunction with federal government’s agenda towards elimination of malaria in Nigeria”.

“Our administration is poised to cater for the health needs of our people and would continue to accord priority to health care by establishing at least one health centre in each of the wards in the state and also expand routine immunization”, he said.

He urged the traditional rulers, district heads, community and religious leader to cooperate with the health officials to instill the sustainable and effective culture toward promoting ownership of the nets. 

He pledged that all households across the 17 local governments would be covered.

On his part, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Primary Health care, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, while thanking the state government and the development partners, called on the beneficiaries not to sell the nets.
