Yobe: Fuel scarcity hits Damaturu as independent marketers shutdown stations

Scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit PMS has hit Damaturu, the Yobe state
capital with Independent Marketers shutting down their stations creating artificial scarcity.

When Blueprint correspondent went round the state capital on Sunday, over 80 per cent of the stations belonging to Independent Marketers were seen shut down.

Adamu Hassan and Bala Abubakar told Blueprint, “most of the
Independent Marketers have enough product but refused to sell to
customers”.

“Most of them have the fuel but refused to sell just for their selfish
interest.  If government can take action to visit the stations, they
can see things for themselves.”

At black markets’ corner, a four-litre gallon of PMS is now sold at N800,
while at most of the major stations including Total, AP and NNPC filling
stations, the price remained unchanged of N145 per litre.

Due to increased queue, it now takes 30 minutes to one hour to get the product.

If the situation continues, it may lead transporters to increase fare
to meet up with the challenge of the pump price.
