Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state on Thursday visited his home town Buniyadi and Bunigari to access the level of damages caused by the Boko Haram insurgents in the past 10 years.
On arrival, the governor went straight to the major streets amidst unprecedented crowds.
While speaking at the local government
secretariat, the governor thanked the people for finding him worthy to be elected as the number one citizen of the state.
Buni said his government would work towards reconstructing and rehabilitating the structures, destroyed by the insurgents and also boost the economy.
“My administration will work towards providing health care services, access roads, portable drinking water and infrastructure. Already, we have declared state of emergency in education from primary to secondary levels,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the care-taker chairman of Gujba local government, Kyari Batarama, thanked the governor for the visit and pledged their support for him to succeed.
At Bunigari, the district head, Fantami Lawan, sought for more security support, saying the community had been attacked 18 times and killed innocent citizens and destroyed properties millions of naira.
Blueprint gathered that Gujba local government has been under the siege of the Boko Haram insurgents between 2012 and 2014 before it was recaptured by the military.
The visit by Buni was the first of its kind by any seating governor.
