Yobe govt launches maternal, newborn child programme, promises 90% coverage

In an effort to reduce the cases of child mortality in Yobe state, Governor Mai Mala Buni. has flagged-off the 2019 first round of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) in the state, calling on the residents to give their maximum supports.

Represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, Tuesday in Damaturu, the governor, said his administration was poised to provide the necessary machinery to reduce deaths of infants in the state to the barest minimum.
“The overall aim is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency in delivering qualitative MNCHW services and ensure effective transition in other health interventions in an integrated approach in Nigeria at large and Yobe in particular towards achieving optimal result in healthcare delivery service indicators,” he said.

While commending the development partners in the state for a job well done, the governor, said health of every resident means a lot to his administration that was why Yobe government had been consistently paying its counterpart funding.

“Let me stress that the first round of the MNCHW and integrated out-reach for which we gathered here to witness its commencement and flag off, was made possible with the support of Yobe government,” he said.

Our Blueprint Correspondent gathered that Saving One Million Lives (SMOL), Action Against Hunger (ACF), International United Nation Children Funds (UNICEF), Co-Group Partners Project (CGPP) and MNCH2 were in the forefront partners.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Alhaji Hamid Alhaji noted that “The overall goal of MNCHW was to achieve at least 90 per cent coverage of all the deliverables (interventions).

There were goodwill messages by representatives of WHO, Adamu Baffale and UNICEF, Dr. Clement Adams who promised to continue partnering in
saving the lives of children in the state.
