Yobe govt, monarch dispel vaccination rumour

Yobe state Deputy Governor and Chairman, Task Force on Polio Eradication in the state, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, has charged parents and guardians to disregard the vaccination rumour that went viral and instead ensure that their children were immunised against polio virus.
The deputy governor said this while leading immunisation team to sensitise the people on the need to disregard the rumour as well as participate actively in the routine polio immunisation for the children.
He said: “we expressed our regrets that enemies of education advancement are at work to discourage school enrollment and attendance and we charge you parents to ensure your wards return to school for effective learning.
“I am saying this with a loud voice that we should disregard this rumour in its totality and allow our children return and remain focus in school” the deputy governor said.
He commend the efforts of donor agencies and spirited individuals for their contributions toward successful immunisation and task the media, traditional and religious leaders among other stakeholders to mobilised the people towards a hitch free immunisation.
In a related development, the Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe state Council of Chiefs, Dr. Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa, has also dispelled the rumour making the rounds that children were being vaccinated on their heads and navels.
The royal father made the call while kicking off the polio vaccines immunization programme at his palace in Potiskum.
He explained that what was going on was immunisation of children against polio virus and other forms of viral infections, and, therefore, urged all to embrace the government programme for the success of the exercise.
Body of man who jumped into Lagoon found
The body of the man who jumped into the Lagoon around Lekki Toll gate in an attempt to commit suicide on Friday, Oluseye Adekunle, has been found.
Premium Times gathered that the body was discovered by a local fisherman early yesterday morning at about 5 a.m. floating by the river bank, around Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge.
The body was recovered from the Lagoon through the coordinated efforts of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Marine Police and handed over to the State Environmental Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
The body has since been taken to Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary.
General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu, said the police would carry out further investigation on the matter.
Tiamiyu also enjoined Lagosians to always endeavour to be their brother’s keeper by reporting any of such incidents on time in order to avoid the repeat of such incident in the state.
