Yobe govt pays N33m for 500 students’ tuition fee

In order to revive the education sector in Yobe state, Governor Mai Mala Buni has declared a state of emergency on primary and secondary education.

Buni said the declaration was necessary to enable the state government to build a solid and robust foundation for better education in the state.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Mohammed Munkaila, said to achieve Buni’s dream of better education in the state, the government has already spent over N33 million on 500 students that are undergoing a remedial programme at the University of Maiduguri.

Munkaila, who disclosed this Friday during a press conference in Damaturu, said, “The remedial is for both arts and science and is conducted here in Yobe; lecturers are coming from university of Maiduguri.

“It’s a one-year programme for which Governor Buni has paid the tuition fee directly to the University of Maiduguri under its consultancy programmes. About N33 million was paid to the consultancy department of the university.”
