Yobe govt take Lassa sensitization to grassroots

Yobe state government through ministries of Health, Information and local government and chieftaincy affairs has commenced the sensitization of stakeholders to prevent the outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.

The state governor Mai Mala Buni represented by his commissioner of Information, Abdullahi Bego, said that “Yobe state is yet to record any outbreak of the disease after its resurgence two months ago but has however, put in place some measures in case of any eventuality”.

Blueprint gathered the sensitization will be taken to the 178 political wards of the state in conjunction with the traditional leaders of the 13 emirate councils of the state.

The World Health Organisation reported that from January 1, through February 9, 2020, 1,708 suspected cases were reported so far out of which 472 have been confirmed with 70 deaths in 26 out of 36 Nigerian states and the federal capital territory.

The Orientation meeting which took placed at GAAT Hotel in Damaturu had in attendance local government personnel, primary healthcare coordinators; diseases control officers, healthcare educators, local government Information officers, among others.
