Yobe state government said 17,000 personnel would be engaged to plan, mobilize, distribute, monitor, and supervise implementation of the 2.3million Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs) donated.
The nets were given by the state
government with supports from malaria consortium and global fund.
Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary
Health Care Management Board disclosed this on Thursday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Damaturu.
“Inorder to record hitch-free exercise, meetings will be held daily to
review cases and complains for immediate attention”.
“We will engage 17,000 personnel to make sure the nets are taken to all nooks and crannies of the state. Therefore we call on the
residents to cooperate with us; the nets are for distribution and not for sharing”, he said.
As for those who are of the habit of selling out the nets, the Executive Secretary, said measures have been put in place to arrest
the perpetrators.
“The nets are unique and can easily be recognized. The partners alsobhave their independent monitors who will go round; I assure you anyone caught selling the nets will face the wrath of the law.”
According to him, the long lasting insecticide Nets Campaign Coordination Committee is the highest decision making body saddled with responsibilities of overseeing the implementation and making sure
the nets reach the targeted beneficiaries.
There were goodwill messages by Commissioners of Health, Water
Resources, Information and paper presentation by one of the partners
titled “attack of malaria and its prevention”.
