Yobe govt trains LG top officials, others on maintenance culture

Yobe State Government has charged local government employees in the
state to imbibe the habit of maintenance culture in a bid to give long
life span to huge government investments.

The state Governor Ibrahim Gaidam represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dawa Maigari, disclosed this on
Tuesday at a two-day workshop organised by Ministry for Local
Government in collaboration with Zanzibaru Logistics Concept in
Damaturu.

Gaidam said: “Over the years, the two tiers of government had collaborated effectively to ensure provision of infrastructure, facilities, vehicles, plants, buildings all of which require one form of continuous maintenance or the other”.

“The government is acutely aware of the fact that if little attention
is paid to infrastructure maintenance and development, the huge
vestment made will be in vain.  I call on you to actively take part,
and meaningfully engage in a robust and rewarding exchange of ideas
and the subject matter,” he said.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Yahaya Ado, implored
participants to ensure effective maintenance of assets at their
disposal.

A participant who is also the Acting Chairman of Yunusari local
government, Saleh Musa Gulani, said the workshop had updated them to
keep watch over government assets.

The workshop drew participants including Directors of Personnel and Heads of Departments from the seventeen local government councils of the state.
