Yobe launches recovery programme; 2000 poor, vulnerable to benefit

Yobe state government in collaboration with federal government has launched poverty and vulnerable recovery programme tagged ‘Youth Employment and Social Operation (YESSO)’ targeting 2,000 youth and vulnerable
persons.

Governor Mai Mala Buni launched the maiden programme Friday at the government house, Damaturu.

Buni, said, “under the Youth and Social Support Operation (YESSO), over N684 million was disbursed from May 2018 till date in the implementation of targeted cash transfers to Internally Displaced Persons, underprivileged youths and vulnerable households.

“So far, a register of 31,486 households made up of 162, 707 individuals had been cleared by the World Bank. 11 more local government areas are in line for similar World Bank Support”, he said.

In his remarks earlier, the state coordinator, state operations coordinating unit of the YESSO, Alhaji Bukar Kilo, said the programme
which was aimed at reducing poverty has targeted 2000 beneficiaries across six local government councils of Geidam, Yunusari, Fika, Nangere, Bade and Jakusko.

“Six LGAs is being targeted with 2000 beneficiaries and a stipend of N7,500 would be given to each of them for the period of one full
calendar year totaling N173,250,000 would be spent for the 2000 beneficiaries.

Kilo, further, said they have successfully conducted enumeration and validation of lists of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in which a total of 136,662 IDPs in 21,204 household in the 17 LGAs across the state has been captured.

Blueprint gathered the state now has a single Register of 31,486 households, comprising 162,707 individual as cleared by the World
Bank.

In her goodwill message, the acting National Coordinator, FOCU of the YESSO, Mrs. Hajara Sami, said upon graduation, beneficiaries would be provided with starter pack to enable them practice their chosen skills.

She further, said the process of paying the stipends has been designed to minimise fraud and ensure transparency and accountability.
