Yobe: LG elections will be free, fair, credible, peaceful – SIEC

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has assured that the forthcoming November 25, 2023 local government elections state will be free, fair, credible and peaceful.

The executive Chairman of the Commission Dr. Mamman Mohammed made this Known Friday June 2, 2023 in Damaturu, Yobe state capital while briefing Journalists on the preparation towards the conduct of the elections.

He said the state Governor Mai Mala Buni has graciously given the approval to SIEC to conduct the elections for the 17 chairmen and 178 councilorsship positions of the Local Government Councils (LGC) in the state.

“This is in consonance with the provision of section 197 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, our press men and women will ensure full dissemination of the information to all electorate in Yobe state in particular.

“The political parties will be issued with elections guidelines to enable them fill in suitable candidates of quality, repute and substance which will drive good governance in the grassroots level,” he said.

Dr. Mamman further revealed that all Yobe residents are eligible to contest for councillorship and the chairmanship positions after attaining the age of 25 and 30 without gender bias with a fee of ₦300,000, ₦250,000, ₦200,000 for chairman, vice chairman and councillors respectively.

He charged his staff and electoral officers to double their efforts to ensure success at the polls.
