Yobe: NDE, NERI empower 150 widows of fallen heroes

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) with support from Northeast Regional Initiatives (NERI) has empowered 150 widows of the fallen heroes who died fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe state.

The 150 beneficiaries which include other vulnerable widows were drawn
across Geidam and Yunusari local government councils of the state.

Flagging the distribution of the starter pack symbolically at the end
of the training, the chairman of Geidam local government council
represented by the Director Personnel Management, Modu Nanami, said
NERI had empowered thousands of its citizens since inception.

In her goodwill message, Yobe state coordinator of the NDE, Hajiya
Mairo Aliyu Betara, told Blueprint that 150 widows took during training
in different fields which at the end, the support group provided them
with starter packs.

She pleaded with the widows not to sell the items, but use them to be
source of income to their families.

They were trained on cool drink business, tailoring, oil processing,
food processing and akara making, among others.

They were given refrigerators, generators, sewing machines, bags of
maize, beans and groundnut, groundnut and palm oil, grinding machines,
among others.

Some beneficiaries, Hajja Kaka Lawan and Paulina Sunday, who spoke to
Blueprint thanked NDE andNERI for coming to their aid, promising not to sell them but help their families.
