Yobe, NECAS flag-off distribution of 100 tractors to farmers

Yobe state government in collaboration with North-east Commodity Association (NECAS), an accredited Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) anchor borrower programme has flagged-off the distribution of 100 tractors to farmers in Yobe to boost its agricultural activities.

Governor Mai Mala Buni who flagged-off the distribution at August 27 Stadium, Damaturu, Yobe state capital on Wednesday, said no Nation can be more secured, unless it can feed itself.
He further said his administration would put all the necessary machinery in place to improve food production with the support of other partners.

“I commend the NECAS for the provision of 100 tractors for distribution to our farmers as the rainy season sets in, it will bring food sufficiency,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state chairman of NECAS, Nuhu Baba Hassan, said the tractors would only be given out to registered farmers and farming  groups on loan to cultivate their farms.

“In Yobe, 11,000 rice farmers  have so far benefited from the association’s farm implements with exception of Fika local government which is yet to register with us” he said.

Hassan, called on the governor to work closely with security agents for the lifting of ban placed on movement or use of fertilizer in the state.

In his goodwill message, the National Chairman of NECAS represented by the National Secretary, Ahmed Duku, said 600 tractors were earmarked for the North-east states with each getting 100.

He said: “The efforts by NECAS has created jobs for the youths and each tractor has 6 people working on it,”
