Yobe: NEDC to reconstruct Gashua potash market

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has said it will assist the victims of Gashua Potash market fire incident in the reconstruction of the burnt stalls.

The NEDC focal person in Yobe, Dr. Ali Abbas, disclosed this when  hepaid a sympathy visit to the victims in Gashua at the weekend.

“Today we are here for an assignment, to sympathize, write a report as well as give a relief material to cushion the impact caused by the fire outbreak at Gashua.

Yobe state government with the support of NEDC is going to work tirelessly to deliver on the promises to make sure that people affected by the inferno have better days ahead and proffer sustainable solutions to the fire outbreak.  “We will also liaise with critical stakeholders, to rebuild the stalls burnt down,” he said.

In his remarks, the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Alhaji Mohammad Jawa, said the mission was to come and see the incident of Zangon Kanwa fire outbreak, assess the situation and see how NEDC can help.

Jawa maintained that the Commission was saddled with the responsibility of rehabilitation, resettlement and reconstruction especially in the areas of education, agriculture, health care delivery among others.

Some emergency assistance provided by the commission include 200 bags of rice, 200 carton of spaghetti,100 gallon of cooking oil and 100 carton of spices.

The fire incident had destroyed about 3,000 bags of potash amounting to N200 million last weekend.
